Music with a huge grin...

Our Music Style

The Hard Place Band  in its current form has been working for over 10  years in the South West, evolving a mixed fare of Commitments-style soul, James Brown Big Band and Chicago Blues, trimmed with a little jazz around the edges.  Our style has developed to best use our lineup which features alto sax/female vocal, tenor sax, trumpet, keyboard/ 'leccy fiddle/male vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar and drums with lead female vocals. A big line up with a big sound. The band has worked all over the South West and has supported the Wilco Johnson Band, Eddie and the Hotrods, and Georgie Fame and The Blue Flames. The Hard Place Band also works internationally; France in 1994 & 1995, Prague 1996, Scotland 1997, Holland in 1998, Normandy in 1999, and Normandy again in 2002. Potentialy a visit to Hong Kong is on the cards for 2005!

Their CD, `What's next?' was produced at Dippen Studios in the Isle of Arran with Nick Ash, a recording manager of international repute.

The Hard Place Band offers a lively and wide range of styles ~ all in one night!!

The diverse musical styles in our set list(s) are matched by the wide range of ages and skill sets of the members of the band.

Starting as a 3-guitars-and-drums band, covering rock and roll classics, the band has developed over its 8 year history into a genre-less non-classifiable band covering the greats of:

    Soul

    Blues

    Rock

    R & B

    Jive & Lindyhop

with a little bit of fiddle bashing folk/rock/bluegrass and a touch of jazz thrown in for good measure.

In fact, you name it and we probably play it—differently. The most important description of our music is "Hugely Enjoyable".

For more details see our play listings, or better still, come and see us at one of our public gigs.
